For the last 15 years we - The Artist Group, Inc. - an intentional community, have lived in a large brick building with accompanying 2-floor carriage house. We researched how we could minimize our heating (and cooling) costs.

Our research led us to using 5 products which no one in our area knew about or offered for sale. So, in process of acquiring these products for our own building we have acquired permission to sell these products to others.

1. Save up to 38% off your home heating/cooling bill . . . Cut your home’s heat/cool loss by painting your walls with Thermo-Shield(r) insulating coating.
We think of it as turning our building into a giant vacuum-thermos! We have one wall where part of the wall has Thermo-Shield(r) coating on it and another part does not. On a Zero-degree day, put a hand on each of the two sections. The Thermo-Shield(r) section will feel cool; the non Thermo-Shield(r) will feel burning cold!

The Exterior wall is painted with tinted Thermo-Shield; the other with regular paint. Can you tell which is which?

Conversely, on a hot summer day when the Sun has been shining on the wall for several hours the Thermo-Shield(r) section will feel neutral to slightly warm while the other section will feel very warm.

We also used the Thermo-Shield(r) Roof Coating when it came time to replace our roof. That cut down the residual heat on our top floor by a huge amount. The day before we put the roof coat on, the temperature was over 108 degrees at 11PM on a 90-degree day. The day after it had been painted on it was only 96 degrees at 11 PM on a 90-degree day. What a difference!

(By the way, it was a much cheaper way to get a new roof than to have a new asphalt roof nailed on!)

You can color these coatings just as you would any other “normal” paint. So you can spruce up the inside and/or the outside of house with Thermo-Shield(r) and save up to 50% of your heating costs.

2. Cut up to 30% from your hot water heating bill.
We installed a“tankless water heater” in place of the standard tank-type heater that holds hot water in readiness for use. So the water heater comes on only when someone is using hot water -- mostly in the morning when we shower. (In comparison, a standard tank heater must “fire-up” multiple times every day to keep the water hot.)

Notice how much less floor space a tankless heater needs!

The positive is, much less gas usage and you never “run out” of hot water. The downside - there is a limit to how much hot water you can use at any one time. In our building we quickly learned that if one person starts doing dishes while another is showering, a loud yell will quickly emanate from the bathroom!

Here’s another positive - every part of the instant heater is replaceable. So you should never again face the cost of a complete water heater replacement when the old one goes bad.

We have heated with corn for nearly 15 years. It is a wonderful way to reduce your energy costs while utilizing a renewable energy source. 4. This patented air-mover shoves hot air where you need it in Winter; keeps you so cool you seldom need AC in Summer.

Seabreeze, a Canadian company, invented Turbo-Aire. And what a difference from an ordinary fan! I think of it this way: If you are standing in a long, dark hallway and want to see what is at the end, you can light a light bulb . . . or you can turn on a focussed high-intensity flashlight.

In Winter we use the Turbo-Aire to spread heat into colder areas when convection alone is not keeping the room warm enough. Generally that's when the outside temperature is below 15 degrees. We simply set the Turbo-Aire in the warm-air stream coming out of the corn heater, and aim it toward the doorway to my office 13 feet away. Even set on a low speed the stained glass sculpture in my window 25 feet away starts moving in the breeze. And my office gets warmer very quickly.

In Summer we use the Turbo-Aire in place of a fan. It is much quieter. And it delivers so much air flow that I must set it (ideally) 7 or 8 feet away or I get too cold even on a low setting.

5. Seabreeze Therma-Flow heats our cold meeting room extremely quickly . . . and less expensively.

We keep our meeting room closed off in winter unless we know a meeting is coming in. But sometimes we have very short notice and can't rely just on opening the doors and letting the warm air from the rest of the building flow in. There are at least two reasons we like the Thermo-Flow when we quickly need to warm up the room:. A) It has a patented design which distributes its hot air throughout the room 42 times a minute! So all the room's air gets warmed up evenly; B) Thermo-Flow has a built-in thermostat so when the room temperature reaches your chosen temperature the heater automatically cuts back its heat output to a maintenance mode. (The company says you save about 30% compared with "regular" heaters. )
